12 Days of Holiday Wellness

'Tis the season of joy! Amidst the twinkling lights and festive cheer, let's remember that the true essence of the holidays lies in joy and celebration. Yet, in the true form of the holiday season, it can also bring forth a myriad of emotions and stress related to expectations, traditions, and the hustle and bustle that accompanies this time of year. As we navigate the holiday whirlwind, let's embark on a journey to prioritize our well-being. Welcome to the "12 Days of Holiday Wellness," where we'll explore mindful practices, self-care, and festive joy to foster a season of balance and tranquility.

Day 1: Gratitude Journaling Begin your holiday wellness journey by reflecting on what you're thankful for. Start a gratitude journal and jot down three things you're grateful for each day. Remember, the fact that you awakened this morning and have the ability and choices to choose is a priceless gift.

Day 2: Hydration Challenge Stay hydrated by challenging yourself to drink at least eight glasses of water today. I must admit this is often a challenge for me, but when I do, I can tell the difference. Try adding a slice of lemon or cucumber for a refreshing twist.

Day 3: Mindful Breathing Take a few minutes to practice deep, mindful breathing. Inhale slowly, hold, and exhale. Repeat this calming exercise to center yourself amidst the holiday hustle.

Day 4: Healthy Recipe Exploration Try a new, nourishing recipe that incorporates seasonal ingredients. Share your culinary creation with loved ones to spread the joy of healthy eating. This is an opportunity to gather friends together and make something together in lieu of just snacking and drinking.

Day 5: Outdoor Walk Bundle up and take a brisk walk outdoors. Whether it's a snowy landscape or a sunny day, nature has a way of rejuvenating the spirit.

Day 6: Digital Detox This may be the most challeging for many. We often don't realize how much we are connected to technology. Allocate a few hours to unplug from screens evn if for 30 minutes. The world will be right where you left it. Engage in activities that don't involve technology – read a book, go for a nature walk, or spend quality time with family and friends. I enjoy putting together a puzzle or playing a card game with the grandkids.

Day 7: Gratitude Affirmations Create a list of positive affirmations related to gratitude. Repeat these affirmations throughout the day to foster a positive mindset.

Day 8: Yoga Session Practice a holiday-themed yoga session. Whether it's a YouTube video or a virtual class, let the soothing poses help you unwind and stay centered. I find this hepful in the wee hours of the morning, or after a long day right before bed.

Day 9: Acts of Kindness Perform small acts of kindness, such as sending a thoughtful message, helping a neighbor, paying for someone's Starbuck's or making a donation to a charity. Acts of kindness bring joy to both the giver and the receiver.

Day 10: Mindful Eating At holiday gatherings, take a moment to savor each bite mindfully. Often, many of us find ourselves eating out of habit rather than truly relishing the flavors. Amidst the festivities, pause to appreciate the diverse tastes and textures on your plate, and savor the joy of sharing a meal with loved ones. Let every bite become a celebration of both the season and the precious moments spent together.

Day 11: Gratitude Jar Start a gratitude jar. Write down moments of gratitude on small notes and place them in the jar. Read them on New Year's Eve to reflect on the positivity of the holiday season. Enroll your family and household in this practice and share with each other to kick the New Year off.

Day 12: Reflection and Goal Setting Take time to reflect on the past 12 days. Set achievable wellness goals for the upcoming year, focusing on both physical and mental well-being. Afterall, Wellness is the New Black.

These "12 Days of Holiday Wellness" aim to create a holistic and joyous approach to self-care during the festive season. Tailor them to your preferences, and embrace this special time. I'd love to hear how you implemented your holiday wellness practice. Happy Holidays!
